2009-2010: Yom HaAtzmaut 5770
April 20, 2010
Yom HaAtzmaut 5770
“If you will it, it is no dream.” Our students have read the words, but on Yom HaAtzmaut 5770, they were able to hear them live – from our very own Mrs. Schwartz, impersonating Theodore Herzl in our “living wax museum.” Golda Meir, Ben Gurion, BenYehuda and more came to life for our students as they toured through our school and heard “firsthand” the experiences of some of the heroes of modern Israel in their own voices. From history to sports to kibbutz life, it was an immersion in all things Israel. But that was just the morning. Afternoon brought our annual Rikkudei, a festival of Israeli dance with its outpouring of ruach and return of alumni who just couldn’t miss Yom Ha’Atzmaut at RGHDS. The day was capped off by “Art for Israel,” where students covered mural-sized paper with sentiments both artistic and literary to convey birthday wishes and love to the Jewish homeland. It was a fantastic day of learning, inspiration and fun.
